Dad was born in Lanark in 1947 and was the son of William and Florence Kennedy. He had 2 brothers and 2 sisters and had a good childhood.

He met my mum during her first night working in a pub in Lanark during Lanimers and asked her for a pint. Mum took ages pouring the pint and dad then joked, "you better start pouing my second now and hopefully by the time im finished this one it might be ready!" Unknown to dad, mum poured the slops and he drank this instead! Feeling sorry for mum, he asked her out on a date. They've been together ever since and never looked back. The word soul mates wouldn't even explain the relationship mum and dad had. There's very few people in life had experienced the kind of love and respect they had for each other.
Mum and dad had 4 kids. Paul, Richard, Karen and myself. And also 4 grandkids, Luke, Christopher, Bailey and Denvyr. He loved and lived for his family. Nothing else meant more to him. No matter what he had on in his life, he made time for all of us. I had a great bond with dad, was often referred to as the 'daddys girl' and was proud of it. Ever since i was able to write, i wrote him letters telling him how proud of him or telling him what was on my mind, and upon his death I found he carried them about with him in his wallet for over 17years, since the day I gave him them. He was there at the birth of my daughter Denvyr and despite his illness, he done me the proud honour of walking me down the aisle at my recent wedding. I could never have asked for a better father and I was truly blessed that he was mine. And he brought his grandkids up as his own, except spoiled them a bit more!!
Dad was an amazing singer, and had a song for everyone. Where ever he went people begged him to sing, and when he did, everyone would stare in awe at him and I'd sit back and think 'thats my dad!' Proud as punch.
Theres so many great things I could say about my dad, about how he was a great dad, pap, husband, singer, friend, employee, man, but there arent enough words that could describe our feelings for him. We were robbed of a great man, but as they say, God only takes the good ones. This time hes taken a great one. The best in my eyes. I just hope and pray that each and every day, he is watching over us, and is at peace.
I love you so so much dad, and one day I'll see you again. Until then Rest in Peace.
You have my heart, Helena xxxxxx

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday dad, we were all down seeing you today, hope that you got all our cards. Denvyr's named a star after you although you've always been a star in my eyes. And at last you own your own little part of Fir Park, a brick has placed in memory of you. Wish you were here so that we could all be singing happy birthday to you like we have always done. Denvyr and I are really struggling with things if Im being honest. Feel like its all sinking in now. Missing you so so much. Im glad you've been sending us your little messages. Its the only thing ive been getting any comfort from. I hope you're acurate in what you've said dad, although your seldom wrong.
Anyway dad, hope your up there having a good day and singing away with that guitar of yours.

All the love in my heart, Helena xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Waiting at the Door

I can’t explain so deep inside
The very fabric of my soul
Only a heart that grieves such loss
Can ever truly understand

It’s like you’re waiting at the door
Until a loved one comes back home
You feel a longing in your heart
When they appear the longing stops

But in a loss that never ends
You’re always standing at that door
You feel the longing in the breeze
So incomplete and never filled

I cannot find the words to say
Just what it’s like to want forever
Never seeing them again
Just always waiting at the door

the best uncle anyone could have

well the time has come for us to part and although it is hard that we will not see each other for years to come I know that you are in a good place along with my dad your brother denis. you have your singing and drinking partner back once again, and I know you will both look after each other. you were and always will be my favourite uncle as you always manage to keep me out of trouble with my dad. I have had the pleasure over the years to hear you sing but the one I remember most I had come up to visit on my motorbike bout 20 years ago and you had a gig on at a pub nearby. now although I had heard you sing at home amongst the family, nothing could have prepared me for what was in store for me that night, you were absolutely brilliant ever the professional with the most fantastic voice to boot. you and dad always made a point of singing together and that was also a treat for me you singing whisky in a jar and dad singing danny boy. just brilliant. I for one will always have you in my heart and will never never forget you my favourite and best uncle danny. all my love and wishes dave kennedy/distin.

My Hero

There will never be a man like you in my life dad and no-one can ever replace you. The only comfort I have in knowing you've passed is that you waited until I'd met a man who would take good care of me the way you did, or at least try his hardest. Im so devastated dad that you're not here with us. That you never got to see our wedding pics, or spend our first Christmas in our house with us. But at least I have the memories and nothing will ever take those away from me, Im just glad you're not in pain anymore. I'll try my best to take care of mum, but trying to ever quarterly fill your shoes will be difficult. You were on in a million dad, and every one of us is so proud of you, especially me. I need you to watch over me, and always let me know you're there.

I love you always and forever. Grumps - Helena xxxxx
